The book Skinny Bitch has been around for a while and has a cool name, but I didn’t get around to checking it out until this weekend.

Why now?  While I was getting my last (hopefully) laser treatment for my sun damage (remember project erasure?; decided to go through 4 more sessions!), the nurse, with an awesome bod, revealed to me she lost 6o lbs a few years back.  How?  She tried every diet but nothing worked until she adopted the approach from Skinny Bitch, by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.  She also said the book was hilarious and just worth the read.

Given my fascination with all things beauty, and always up for a better, healthier way of staying fit, I decided to get my paws on it.

I have to say, I loved it!  It was such a provocative read that I finished it in a matter of hours.  You don’t just learn WHAT to eat, but WHY, and what happens to the food BEFORE it gets to the stores and we put it in our tummies every day.

Of course you can’t take EVERYTHING the book espouses as gospel, but the contents definitely provoked me to think twice about my addiction to artificial sweeteners.

Most of all, I loved the straightforward talk and no bullshit attitude.  It was refreshing, funny and easy to digest.  I think it’s great that they aren’t coddling.  It’s all tough love.

The best part was in the end of the book, the authors — who actually don’t promote bitchiness but admit they wanted to get our attention with the book’s title — strongly promote the idea that feeling better about our bodies means we’ll be happier people, and as a result nicer to others.  In other words, the opposite of bitchy!

This has been a similar message to what we’ve been encouraging with this blog.  When you appreciate your own beauty and the beauty around you, you’ll be happier, more confident, and a better person in the end.

So, even if you’re not even contemplating dieting, take a look at this book.  You’ll learn a lot and laugh your ass off!
