This image is one of many beautiful pieces of artwork shown at “The Cult of Beauty: The Victorian Avant-Garde 1860-1900.” In this show that opened last week about the British Aesthetic Movement, we can witness the “other side” of the Victorian era.  While we think of this era as one of prudishness and repression, there was a whole artistic counter-culture that explored the beauty of sensuality, aesthetics and decadence.  It’s reassuring to know that no matter how stifling the cultural norms, there are always artists that defy them and continue to create beauty.
