Ugh, I’m so disgusted.
I even hesitate to bring up the topic but I do think we should know shit is out there so we can defend against it.
What am I talking about?
I saw a story on Pennlive.com about a psychologist at the London School of Economics, Satoshi Kanazawa, publishing an article in the prestigious Psychology Today about why African women have “lower than average” levels of physical attractiveness.
His crazy reasoning?  The higher than average levels of testosterone present among black women.
Thank goodness columnists and scientists around the world have debunked it.
Not only is it junk science but, look around you, it’s patently untrue!  Do Beyonce, Halle, or Oprah ring any bells?  Let alone some of the gorgeous women I work with!
This isn’t just another example of racism but, unfortunately, the extreme and harmful places theories and expectations around beauty can go.
The silver lining in all of this is that the majority of the world seems to find this article deplorable, which says to me people are mostly good and beauty can be appreciated for what it is: a wonderful but subjective and multi-interpretable expression of humanity.
